I have the terrible habit of staying in my comfort zone. While in college, my buddies like to plan trips to Texas or do something fun for the weekend. I like my routine of going home on the weekends. My buddies call it “small town syndrome.” I grew up knowing everybody in my town and doing the same activities with the same people, which consisted of going down to the creek or cruising on the dirt roads. That’s how I grew up having fun!
So to step out of my comfort zone, I went camping with some friends to Turner Falls this weekend. That was a whole new experience! Especially since I, lil’ miss country girl, has never gone camping before. But I gotta say, I had a blast! The weather was awesome and I got to experience hiking for the first time.
The most exciting part of the trip was spelunking. My friend and I climbed up the rocky path of the mountain and crawled into the different caves. My legs where shaking the whole time! I don’t think I have ever been so terrified in my life! But I stepped out of my comfort zone and found a hobby that I never thought that I would want to do again!
My absolute worst habit is not taking care of my skin. Honestly, I wash my face about once a week and I constantly go to bed with my makeup still on. Do you know what I get for being so lazy? My face breaks out. When one pimple disappears, another takes its spot a day later.
The best thing that any person can do is to take care of their skin, especially on the face because that is the money-maker! These 25 Tips for the skin are so helpful! It helps you narrow down the best face lotion, face scrub, body lotion and much more. It also gives advice on handling sunburns, dry skin and types of food that are bad and good for your skin.

You’ll feel better about your skin and you’ll be amazed at how soft your skin can be. Another kitchen treatment is cucumbers. Being broke is not fun. It’s very sad…at least for me since I am broke. But it is something that I have learned to handle in my junior year of college. It all starts with control: You control the money, do NOT let the money control you!
One way to control your money is to take cash instead of debit/credit cards! I know that when I go out with my friends for the night, I spend less when I take cash. Taking cash gives me a limit for how much I spend for the night. I know that if I took my debit card, I would be going crazy! So limits are good.
Also, stay away from brands! I know everyone has their favorite brands and are loyal to it, but most of the time it is a scam. You can get the same kind of quality from the generic brands and pay less than you would for the brand.
Other great money tips are to use coupons, buy second-hand books and music, keep your receipts and always hit the sales rack first!
I know this blog is all about improving horrible habits, but sometimes those bad habits are not so bad. Sometimes you just need to sit back and embrace the bad habits!
Take coffee for example. Many studies show that coffee is bad because of all of the caffeine and can cause an upset stomach. But on the positive side, coffee helps regulate your mood as well as keeping you alert!
Another habit that should stay is skipping a workout. Not gonna lie, I did a little dance when I read this: skipping workouts gives the muscle time to repair and to gain strength. It’s great to be active, but don’t get burnt out on workouts if you’re on a strict routine.
See, bad habits are not so bad! Ha ha, I made a joke!
Sleep is my best friend. I love Sleep when I’m laying in bed asleep. I’m angry with Sleep when I can’t fall asleep. It has come to be a love/hate relationship with Sleep.
It’s normal to not have a good sleeping habit, but it sucks in the morning when your still tired. I have learned to have good sleeping habits. There needs to be a strategy or routine before you go to bed.
1.Sleep Schedule:go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. Your body will conform to your sleep schedule.
2.Bedtime Routine:create a routine so that you can relax before getting in bed. Wash your face and brush your teeth. Turn down the noise. Keep your room cool.
3.Exercise & Diet:what you eat does make a difference. Avoid big meals late at night and don’t drink too many liquids in the evening. Also avoid caffeine because it can cause sleeping problems up to 12 hours. Exercise would be a great help. Put your body through physical work and it will be ready to relax in the evening.
Now this strategy may not work for everyone. It is up to you to find a routine that works for you.
Everyone knows that common phrase “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” But we all do and that is the sad truth. I find myself doing it all the time when I go to class or shopping at the mall. It’s easy to tell who rolled out of bed and who put some effort into their appearance.
Appearance matters no matter where you go in life: when you have a job, going out with friends or going to class. I had a horrible habit of wearing baggy sweatpants to class because I just rolled out of bed. It’s tacky, don’t do it!
One way to improve your appearance is to wake up early! I know it sounds horrible and excruciating, but it works. You have time to put effort into your clothes and hair so you don’t look like a mess.
Another way is to pick out your clothes the night before. If getting up early is just too much work, plan your outfit the night before so you have time to sleep in.
If none of these work for you, at least put on jeans before you leave home. They are way better looking on your butt instead of the baggy sweatpants!
Now I don’t know about guys, but hair care is important for women! We are styling our hair to primp ourselves for the world. We have to look pretty when we step out the door! With styling too much, hair becomes damaged and dry. Here are a few products I use to keep my hair healthy.
After washing my hair, I always use Aussie leave-in conditioner because it keeps my hair hydrated. I try to only blow dry my hair twice a week because the heat kill my ends. When styling my hair, I love using the product Sebastian Trilliant Thermal Protection. It protects my hair from heat damage without making it feel sticky or stiff. Moroccanoil is the best stuff to use on hair after styling it. It works perfectly with other products and strengthens my hair.
Here’s another tip: instead of styling your hair, put it up in a bun or braid. That way you look cute without using heat!
I have the worst habit of avoiding my work and not staying focused. There is always something that sways my attention from my homework or other important projects. To stay focused, I have developed a few steps.
1.Distraction: Take away anything that will distract you. In many case, that would be T.V., music and people. Striking up a conversation is my go-to distraction!
2.Dear Diary: I like to keep a journal because it helps me stay on track with my goals. It also helps me analyze all that I need to do or what I should improve on.
3.New Habits: Create new habits to get rid of the bad ones! Since it takes 21 days to make a habit, you better get started now!
4.Environment: Where you decide to do your work matters. If you study or work in the same place every day, you are more likely to learn better and it is easier to stay focused.
5.Take Breaks: If you try to work for hours, you are going to lose focus. Take a 15-minute break after every hour of working. Whatever it is, make sure you treat yourself!
In our busy lives, it’s so easy to forget our manners. Saying please and thank you or any other civil act is often taken for granted. This article from the “Today” website explains how civility is possibly dead. Now, I don’t think civility is dead, it’s just not being used to its full advantage.
My mom made an awesome suggestion for a New Year’s goal! For her goal, she is writing a thank you card every day. It’s a simple card to either a friend, a business or whoever crosses her mind that day. She has gotten a few responses back saying how much her thank you card had brighten their day.
So I’m going to take page out of my mom’s book. I am pledging myself to say thank you every day! Whether it’s to my roommate or the person working at Starbucks handing me my coffee, I’m going to say thank you!
Saying thank you is a good habit that no one should forget!
Well, it’s definitely that time of the year. It’s the time where you don’t need an excuse to over eat because it generally happens anyway. The only thing that I dread about the holidays is the “I can’t breath” feeling after eating some amazing food. When I say amazing, I mean Pioneer Woman amazing! There is a holiday section on her blog that my mom uses and I literally cannot breath after I eat.
But I am determined to control myself this year. After reading this Guide to Surviving the Holidays, I will mind my portion control when I’m hitting up the buffet at a party. I will also watch my intake of alcoholic beverages and try to drink water in between them.
